Gone Fishing!

Well it's been a little while since I've posted anything as it's been a bit quiet on the cake front ... which I confess was quite nice in June when we had all the hot weather! My latest creation was for a friends dad's 70th birthday and the theme was fishing. I was very pleased with the final result and I finally seem to be grasping sugar modelling dough! Unfortunatley I don't think the photo does this one justice, but I'll let you decide :-)

My Birthday!

I couldn't resist putting this up on here ... I've just celebrated my 30th *cough* birthday and the girls made me a birthday cake. Not wanting to attempt anything like the one's I have created they came up with what I can only consider as genius!! A CRISPY CREME MOUNTAIN!!!!!!

Totally scrummy and decorated with marshmallows and flying saucers ... what more could a girl want!

The Mountain along side the delicious posh one from Maison Blanc ... I was totally spoiled :-)

Thank you everyone xxx

More Ducks!

A first birthday cake for some friends' little boy, Daniel. I was asked to make it by the very proud auntie ;-)

... and introducing the ducks!

A Golden Jubilee

If anyone had said that I would be making a cake for a nun laced with Grand Marnier I wouldn't have believe them ... but it is true. Here is the lovely orange cake with Grand Marnier and a white chocolate buttercream for a sister's golden jubilee using their specific style cross as decoration. I understand it went down well :-)

Pingu MKII

A favour to my friend Jo for her daughter's 13th birthday as her daughter loved the first one I made. This time it's only a 2-tier cake (not 3 as previously), made of zesty lemon cake with white choc creme fraishe filling. I only finished him early hours of this morning and I hope they enjoy "Gerald"!

A Busy Month!

Sorry I seem to have neglected my blog this month but, in my defence it has been a busy one! Since my last post there's been a pink duck birthday cake, 3 devine carrot cakes, 3 batches of yummy choc-cherry mudcakes, lost count of the number of victoria sponges (including 1 sorry-I-wasn't-in-the-country-for-your-birthday-dad which, of course I was then forgiven for!), a quick 15 min help-my-mate-out cake decoration and then finally 1 happy divorce cake from yesterday ... oh, and of course not forgetting my actual day-job and a trip to Berlin ... Phew!

So, here's a few pics of what i've been up to ...

First up, The Big Pink Duck!

This cake was meant to be me assisting my friend Lara in making her own birthday cake, I was only sculpting the duck ... let's just say I couldn't help myself and kinda took over while she was busy sorting other bits out ... but I think it looks pretty cool and she loved it!

One of the many Devine Carrot Cakes!

This one was for my friend Jo's birthday ... yum scrum!

(The other 2 were for Mother's Day and as a Thank You pressie)

Choc-Cherry Mud Cakes!
These are just delicious!! Batch 1 was for a friend's Afternoon Tea, the second was for the family. I also made a 3rd batch this month on Easter Sunday for a chocolate feast with some friends!

All boxed and ready to go ...

Now for the family!

A Quick Helping Hand to a friend!

My friend had made the cake and wanted to decorate it for her 2 friends' leaving meal that night! A quick ice and a little twiddling while she was getting ready and voila!

... and finally, a Happy Divorce Cake!
This was for a friend of mine at work, although she was looking forward to the official divorce day it still did the trick and made her smile :-) ... now to go out and celebrate properly!

Keep an eye out for more posts next month, I have a few fun cakes coming up!

Gingercake Madness!

Well, I can safely say the mamouth annual Gingercake baking session on Tuesday night paid off - 4 big gingercakes made and none left!! It's a recipe I've been making for years and now can not escape making for a friend's birthday every year!

So now it's just the Devine Carrot Cake this weekend for mother's day (my mum has not tasted this one yet!), another one for a friend's birthday next week and my yummy Cherry Chocolate Cupcakes for the same friend next weekend! ... It's all go :-)

P.S. The pic is of the carrot cake, but just to clarify ... that image is not mine, as much as I would love to say it is!

Postman Pat! - March 2009

My sugar dough hell! This was the first time I had used modelling sugar dough, but with some practice I'm sure I will master it!
The cake was for my good friends' little boy who turned 2, it was a lovely victoria sponge with a very creamy buttercream and raspberry filling.

The Harley Cake! - February 2009

Thank you very much to my friend Deanne for trusting me to make her husband's 40th birthday cake ... the lovely rich chocolate cake again, this time with pipe work that took me ages!

The Penguin! - January 2009

A 3-tier zesty orange caked soaked in Grand Marnier with a white chocolate and crème fraishe filling ... all in the shape of a penguin sitting on an iceberg. Yum!!
This cake was for my best mate's 30th and she loved it :-)

My First Cake! - September 2008

This was the start of it ... a good friend's 30th birthday last September when I decided I would make a birthday cake in the shape of a Radley Bag out of a deliciously rich chocolate cake ... she loved it! I would really like to go back and re-create this one now as there are so many things I have learnt along the way.
